To gain a professional effect towards my poster I wanted to follow the generic conventions of having a colour theme of black, white and red.
The image itself of the Aunt Endora looking down onto Olivia conveys the narrative of the trailer, but doesn’t give too much away. The choice of mise en scene for Olivia such as the white bear, white dress and blonde hair conveys purity and shows that she is the innocent one. However we can tell that something bad is going to happen to Olivia because the Aunt, Endora looks as though she is plotting something. It contradicts the whole stereotype of being an Aunt; she shouldn’t want to hurt her niece. The face of the Aunt looks as though it is coming out of the shadows which I have edited on Photoshop, it makes her seem as though she is there but doesn’t want to be noticed. I have used the tool (burn) to highlight her features to make them darker making her seem tired and scary. Her eyes are telling a story, conveying that she knows something that no-body else does which engages with the audience. They would want to find out what the secret of the Aunt is.
I wanted to use a direct mode of address with the villain and this is why Endora is looking straight at audience, therefore suggesting that they are the victim and creating an impact already on the audience. The slogan itself is placed in the centre of the page more over to the right, which is suggesting that the Mother’s love of the daughter isn’t enough for her which leads Olivia into finding someone else which links it with plot. It’s conventional for the image to link in with the tagline in order to create a potential narrative.
I have used a texture to give the poster more depth and body and I also wanted it to convey that the Aunt has tried to scratch away the image so that her secret will not be let out.
I have chosen Olivia to have a sad expression on her face to convey her emotions in the film, I want the audience to feel sorry for this character which I think I have created well.
